POLICY ON HOST VEHICLE BREAKDOWN DURING A GETHOOPTIE TRIP
At Gethooptie, we are committed to providing a safe, reliable, and enjoyable carpooling experience for all our users. We understand that unexpected situations can arise during a trip, such as a breakdown of the host vehicle. In such cases, we have developed a policy to ensure that our users are well-informed and protected.
1. Responsibility of Hosts
Hosts are responsible for ensuring that their vehicle is in good condition before each trip. Hosts must conduct regular maintenance checks on their vehicle and ensure that it is serviced regularly. This includes checking the condition of tires, brakes, and other essential components of the vehicle. Hosts are not allowed to list any car that is more than 15 years old on the Gethooptie platform.
2. Trip Insurance Offer
To provide additional protection to our riders, Gethooptie offers a trip insurance option that covers riders' trips in the event of a car breakdown. Hosts can purchase trip insurance at the time of listing their ride and pay the applicable fee, which will be deducted before the funds are transferred to the host's account. The insurance fee for single seat reservation is $1.99, for two seats it's $2.99, for three seats it's $3.99, and for more than three seats, it's $5.99. The maximum amount of insurance coverage for one seat is $35, for two seats it's $60, for three seats it's $75, and for more than three seats, it's $100.
3. Responsibility of Hosts in Case of Breakdown
In the event of a breakdown due to any mechanical or technical issues, the host must take immediate steps to ensure the safety of the rider(s) and the vehicle. This includes pulling over to a safe location and turning on hazard lights. The host must then notify the rider(s) of the situation and offer to use the trip insurance to cover the alternate transportation for the rider(s) to their intended destination. If the host has purchased trip insurance, they will be eligible for reimbursement of the transportation expenses up to the maximum coverage amount.
4. Responsibility of Riders
Riders must cooperate with the host during the trip and follow their instructions in the event of a breakdown. Riders must remain calm and patient during the situation and avoid causing any further damage to the vehicle. If the host has not purchased trip insurance, riders may make their own arrangements for transportation to their intended destination.
5. Liability and Reimbursement
If the host's vehicle breaks down during a Gethooptie trip, the host is responsible for arranging and paying for the alternate transportation for the rider(s) to their intended destination, either through trip insurance or out of their own pocket. The host is also responsible for any additional expenses that may arise due to the breakdown, such as towing charges, repair costs, or other related expenses. Gethooptie is not liable for any expenses incurred by the host or the rider(s) due to the breakdown of the host's vehicle.
6. Communication and Support
Gethooptie encourages open communication between hosts and riders during a trip. We recommend that hosts and riders exchange contact information before the trip and stay in touch throughout the trip, especially in the event of a breakdown. Gethooptie's support team is available 24/7 to provide assistance and support in case of emergencies or unexpected situations during a trip.
